Abraham Maslow's core concept. The apex of the hierarchy of needs: Fulfilling one's potential. Characteristics of self-actualized people (Maslow's analysis of historical figures): 1. Accurate perception of reality 2. Acceptance of self and others 3. Spontaneity and naturalness 4. Problem-centered (not self-centered) 5. Comfortable with solitude 6. Autonomy and independence 7. Fresh appreciation for life 8. Peak Experiences 9. Deep, meaningful relationships 10. Democratic character Maslow estimated less than 1% of humanity achieves full self-actualization. Examples: Einstein, Lincoln, Eleanor Roosevelt
